PostSubject: Suggestion: disable battle chatter on AKA server with ShutUp mutator   Wed Oct 31, 2012 1:29 pm

There is a servermutator available made by THOR of |DD| (http://deathb4dishonor.net/) that makes soldiers (infantry and tanks) to stop talking random ingame. The most annoying thing about that battlechatter is that it can give away your position while sneaking in onto the enemy.

The great thing about the mutator is we can decide for ourselves which things should be muted and which not.
For example: it could be realistic to keep 'Grenade !', 'Reloading' and slow death sounds enabled since in real life situations soldiers probably do the same thing; but when you have to sprint towards a cappoint and want to sneak in, your soldier shouldnt say 'I have to rest, I'm done' when you know the enemy can hear it.

Do note: the mutator has not been whitelisted yet by Tripwire, but the creator requested it, so it's only a matter of time we could have it on our AKA server if we want.

I'm very much pro installing the mutator on our server.
It will enhance our own gaming experience, but also:
- we can distinguish our server being focussed on professional gameplay
- when organising scrims on our server, we offer more realism towards our guestclan

What you guys think ?

YES i like the option have been saing thisd since the begining however not shure though but iv heard this mutator is a drain on yur memory again not shure Smile

Ok, I didn't read anything about that on the TWI-forums but I will verify it with the creator.


EDIT: creator already answered me: "Any additional code executed has an impact. The question is how large will the impact be. I'm not worried about that mutator. Its code is extremely simple. I wouldn't bother with performance test."

OK, next step. If one of you wants to experience the Shut.Up mutator, lets go to the creators server where it has been installed: http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?p=1147276#post1147276

For our own server, I have made a custom list of all possible battlechatters and enabled/disabled where I would.
The following list would, in short:

Disable your doll saying:
- "throwing grenade/smoke/satchel"
- "taking fire! sniper!/MG!/Tank!..."
- "friendly fire!"
- all kinds of random chatter in friendly/enemy locations (like "We almost have it!", "Sending those krauts back to Berlin!")
- "I'm tired, need to rest for a second" and "Aaaah, I'm hurt"
- random chatter in tanks

Enable:
- "Artillery! take cover!"
- "Grenade! take cover!"
- (slow) death sounds (you can't shut up a gorgling dude who's longues get filled with blood, or a man in horrible pain looking at his dismembered legs pirat )
- bandaging sounds
- "enemy spotted tank/infantry/..." (triggered when you spot an enemy with the 'Z' key)
- all commander chatter at the radio (he can't call for artillery without saying anything to the radio)
- usefull chatter in tanks (like "Reloaded!", "Engine damaged", "Engine/tracks destroyed")
- realistic chatter in tanks (like tankcommander saying "move forward", "stop" and tankmembers confirming)

Of course this list is open to changes. Thats why I would put in the full list on the server, so we can always tweak afterwards.
Enabling a battlechatter goes by simply putting a ";" in front of the "RemovedVoiceComIndexes=x" command.
